THE SCHOOL DAY

Attendance
Attendance at school is compulsory for all pupils, every day. No pupil should be absent from school without permission unless there is a wholly unavoidable reason, in which case parents should send a letter of explanation to school. Where a pupil is unwell and unable to come to school, parents should telephone and leave a message with the Office. A letter must accompany pupils on their return and be given to the School Office or the Form Teacher.

Requests for leave of absence during the course of the term are unsatisfactory – we much prefer not to be asked! Parents are particularly requested not to arrange holidays during term time.

Excursions
Each form normally goes on at least one excursion each term; these excursions are planned in conjunction with the curriculum to supplement and extend formwork and excite the pupils' interest. The pupils love going on them of course, but they are chosen primarily for their educational value and are not intended as treats.

These may include visits to museums and galleries, theatres, historic sites, farms, and any other day-trips, which may be appropriate.

Parents sign an outings permission slip before their child joins the school. The cost of all trips are added to the following term's bill. Regretably you will still be charged in the event that your child is ill and unable to attend on the day.

Form Teachers
The Form Teachers are highly qualified and experienced. They are the primary contact between school and parents and are completely responsible for the academic, social, emotional and physical development of the pupils in their care. They are available to see parents by appointment and hold individual formal meetings with parents twice a year to discuss the pupils' progress. These usually take place in the Autumn and Spring Terms.

Reports
Every pupil receives a report at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms, which is sent home a few days before the end of term.

Complaints
If there are any complaints or concerns, parents should speak or write as soon as possible to the Headmaster. For trivial matters it may be best to speak to the Form Teacher; they appreciate the support of parents and prefer to hear directly of any queries or worries. The school has long prided itself on the quality of the teaching and pastoral care provided to its pupils. However, if parents do have a complaint, they can expect it to be treated seriously by the School in accordance with its stated Complaints Procedure. A copy of the 'Policy for Complaints Procedure' is available from the school office and on this website.
