THE SCHOOL DAY
As with all schools, the volume of traffic associated with morning drop-off and afternoon collection requires a clear procedure and the co-operation of parents in order to ensure that it runs smoothly. It is essential, therefore, that EVERYONE understands and adheres to the school's policy detailed below.
First and foremost, whenever possible, children should travel to and from school on foot or by public transport. Many parents opt to park a little further away from school and walk the remainder of the way. This is particularly relevant to many families living in Fulham who often opt to park on the other side of the river and walk across the footbridge adjacent to Putney Bridge Tube. This is extremely helpful if parents wish to accompany their children into school. Bike and scooter racks are located in the school playground to the rear of the school.
Morning Drop Off
- On foot
Those travelling to school on foot should enter through the main gates at the front of the school. Children riding bicycles or scooters to school should continue along the Avenue to the playground where bike and scooter racks are located. Members of staff will be located at the front of the building, in the main hall and in the playground to greet and receive the children. Parents should then exit via the Avenue which runs through the centre of the building at ground floor.
Any messages may be left with the school secretaries in the office on your way out.
- By car
We ask that, wherever possible, you arrange to car share with other families. Even if this is only possible once or twice a week, it will help enormously. A 'school run list' will be on the notice board in the Avenue and parents are encouraged to sign up if they are interested in finding someone local to them with whom to share.
All children travelling by car should be dropped off in the car park. Cars enter the car park on the left and follow the lane around until they come to the 'drop off and collection zone' at the centre front. Staff will be on duty here to take your child/children from the car and directly into the school. Cars should then continue out of the car park and turn left into Putney Bridge Road.
In the event that you are unable to use the car park, there are six short-term parking bays at the top of Deodar Road (Wandsworth Park end). Members of staff will be positioned on this corner each morning to accompany children dropped off here.
Under NO circumstance is parking or dropping off allowed outside the school in Putney Bridge Road.
Each form is allocated one morning a week when parents are able to visit their child's classroom. It would be particularly helpful if parents could either walk to school on these days or park on a 'pay and display' bay a little further away. It will make for a more relaxed visit.
Afternoon Collection
- On foot
Parents collecting on foot should enter via the central gate and into the Avenue. Members of staff will be on duty in the School Hall, Ballet Studio and the Avenue and parents must report to them before leaving with their children. Children will then leave with their parents down the Avenue and out through the front gates.
- By car
As with morning drop off, please try to arrange to car share wherever possible.
The car park gates will be opened at 3pm and will remain open during the main collection period. On entering the car park you need to inform the member of staff on duty which child/children you are collecting. (This will be checked with a list prepared daily by the school office).
As in the morning you should then follow the lane around to the 'drop off and collection zone' where your child/children will be waiting for you with a member of staff.
If for any reason your child is delayed in coming down to meet you, please either drive around the car park again or leave and return a few minutes later in order to ensure that the flow of traffic is not interrupted.
If you arrive after the main collection period and the car park gates are shut, you should use a proximity card (available for collection from Reception). Each family is permitted a card but a fee of £10 is charged for any replacements. These cards operate the car park gates and those at the front of the school from 4pm-6pm.
Proximity cards must be returned when your child leaves Hurlingham.
Parents are asked to be considerate to the school's neighbours at all times and to ensure that:
- conversations with other parents are kept to an absolute minimum outside the front of the school building and elsewhere in the street, and
- dogs are kept on a lead and prevented from fouling either in the street or in neighbours' front gardens. In the event that this does occur, it is the owner's responsibility to ensure that it is cleared up.
