Nursery & Pre Prep

Hurlingham Nursery and Pre-Prep, formerly Lion House School, was incorporated into the Hurlingham family in September 2017.  We are delighted that, having offered a first-class education between the ages of 4 and 11 for many years at the main Hurlingham site on the Putney Bridge Road, we are now able to offer families the option of nursery provision from the term after a child’s second birthday, and we supply a distinctive two-pronged approach to the infant years. There is a guaranteed place for every nursery child at age 4 into the main school, should parents wish their son or daughter to undertake a traditional primary education culminating in 11+ transfer into senior education. However, there is also the option to remain on the Gwendolen Avenue campus if a 7+ pathway into selective junior and boarding schools is preferred.

We believe this choice is truly unique and an enormous asset in facilitating children’s preparation for the next stages of their education- wherever parents would like this to be.

The Pre-Prep at Gwendolen Avenue offers an exceptionally thorough preparation for the 7+ and this year pupils achieved successes to St Paul’s, King’s Wimbledon, Bute House, Kensington Prep, Lady Eleanor Holles and Putney High.

We fully appreciate the appeal and benefits of outdoor education in the natural world, whilst simultaneously understanding parents’ desire to ensure the academic readiness for school of their four year old. From September 2018, therefore, we will be offering the option of a 20:80 split for our children rising four, enabling one day per week in a "Forest School" setting and up to another four days each week in our newly refurbished nursery with its excellent modern facilities, including a dedicated exercise and music studio.

We endeavour to help working parents by offering wrap around care.  There is a Breakfast Club from 7.30am-8.15am for those needing to drop off early and, from September 2018, we will be offering a Tea Club option from the end of lessons until 6pm Monday to Thursday.  Tea club is available to all children and will include a light snack, activities and homework supervision for Year 1 and 2.
