A Day at Hurlingham Nursery

The Nursery week is split into 10 'sessions', each day consisting of a morning session and an afternoon session. Parents have full flexibility regarding which sessions your child attends and on which day. 

Our youngest Nursery learners are required to attend a minimum of four sessions per week. Once the children reach our Pre-School year (the academic year that they turn 4 years old) they are required to attend a minimum of six sessions. We recommend children build up to ten or thereabouts by the end of the academic year in preparation for being full time in their Reception Class.

8.00am to 12.00pm - Morning Session

12.00pm to 3.45pm  - Afternoon Session

We know parents may need to drop their children at Nursery a little earlier in the morning, or extend their day after Nursery. 

• We provide an ‘Early Birds’ club with drop off from 7.45am, at no extra charge.
• At the end of the Nursery day, we offer ‘Little Learners’ club, which runs from 3.45pm to 6.00pm during term time.

Morning drop off is between 8.00am and 8.45am each day, with parents taking their child into their classroom and checking-in with their teacher before saying goodbye. During the course of each morning the children will have time learning through play in their rooms or in one of our outdoor areas, enjoy a snack time with their classmates, take part in a carpet time session as a class, and be immersed in one of our incredible enrichment sessions that happen daily. 

During the course of each week, all of our classes enjoy Music and Mindfulness, Yoga, Gymnastics, Gardening, Dance and Drama and Forest School, each one being led by a member of our amazing Nursery team. 'Carpet sessions' are an opportunity to explore books, to sing, to count, to share and explore feelings and to discuss learning opportunities that have arisen that day.

For those children who still nap following lunch, we have sleep time between 12.15pm and 2.15pm, with parents agreeing with their child’s teacher how long you would like them to sleep for within that period. For those that have dropped their nap, learning continues after lunch, when children enjoy time in the garden, having playdates in each other’s classrooms, joining together for stories, and having an afternoon snack before preparing for the end of the day.

In Nursery we focus on the three Prime Areas of Learning and Development:

• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
• Personal, Social and Emotional

These three areas are the building blocks on which all future learning is built, and are therefore key in the Early Years. Maths and Literacy activities are woven into all we do in Nursery, with phonics introduced to our Pre-School children as they are ready.
