School Fees
We recognise the unprecedented financial changes faced by parents investing in independent education. The introduction of VAT on school fees from January 2025 represents a significant uplift, and we have done our very best to mitigate as much of this effect as possible. Unless otherwise stated, all fees and charges listed here are inclusive of VAT where applicable.
We review fee levels once a year and parents are notified of any changes prior to the commencement of the Summer Term.

Admissions Charges
| Registration Fee | £100 per child | Non-refundable |
| Acceptance Fee | £2,000 per child | As noted below |
| Deposit | £2,000 per child | As noted below |
Deposit Structure
As part of the acceptance of offer, a deposit payment is paid in two instalments. The first is a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of £2,000 paid at the time of acceptance (via the online portal).
The second, 'Balance Payment' of £2,000 is due one term before your child's start date.
If, for any reason, your child does not join Hurlingham School, the Acceptance Fee is non-refundable.
These two payments form the 'Deposit', held by school until your child leaves. The school will retain the holding deposit and return it (without interest) when your child leaves Hurlingham, provided that the required notice has been given.
Notice of Withdrawal
We require one full term’s notice in writing to the Head on or before the first day of term of the intended withdrawal of a pupil. Failing this, fees for the following term are payable in lieu of notice.
Other Charges
Pupils’ Absence Insurance Hurlingham subscribes to a Pupils’ Absence Insurance Scheme, which allows parents to reclaim school fees in the event of their child being absent from school for four or more consecutive days due to illness, accident or contact with an infectious disease.
The cost of this is currently 0.73% of school fees, so £57.99 for Lower School pupils and £60.09 for Upper School pupils, and is charged through the termly fee invoice.
This insurance is not compulsory, but we strongly encourage parents to subscribe to it, as we are not able to waive fees in the event of pupils being absent from school, even when this results in them missing a significant period of their schooling. Early Years Funding All pupils who are below the age of 5 on the first day of any term, are entitled to funding for 15 hours of free childcare at a nationally determined rate. We are able to claim this funding on behalf of parents and it will be automatically reflected in the fee invoice, provided the parent has completed and signed a declaration form, which the school will provide.
Some pupils may be eligible for an additional 15 hours of weekly funding. You can check whether you qualify for this on the Government website. Childcare Vouchers and Tax-free Childcare
Childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare are government-sponsored schemes which allow parents to save tax on income used to pay for childcare for their own children up to the age of 11.
Hurlingham can only accept payment using childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare for the following:
- School fees if their child is under the age of 5 on the first day of term to which the fees relate
- Extra-curricular activities that take place before or after school (this excludes karate, ballet and chess, which take place at lunchtime and are therefore considered part of the school day)
- Holiday clubs
We cannot accept payment by childcare voucher or tax-free childcare for anything else including school trips.
For parents to be able to access childcare vouchers, they need to have joined a scheme prior to 5th October 2018. From that date, tax-free childcare was introduced in place of childcare vouchers and is still open to new parents. Details about the tax-free childcare scheme can be found here, and you can check your eligibility and learn about the application process here.
| Ballet & Karate |
| We encourage all pupils to participate in either ballet or karate lessons, due to the benefits these activities bring in terms of balance, flexibility, health and discipline. The lessons take place once a week during lunch break and the charge per term is £180 (including VAT), which is added to the fee invoice. Once enrolled for ballet or karate, the assumption is that your child continues with them from term to term, unless due notice is given. For Reception pupils, participation in ballet and karate is compulsory and forms part of the curriculum. The cost of these lessons is still invoiced separately from core fees for Reception pupils at a reduced rate. |
| Other Extra-Curricular Activities |
| As well as ballet and karate, we offer a broad range of clubs that pupils can participate in before, during and after the school day. Parents enrol and pay for these clubs on a term-by-term basis through our online clubs management platform. |
| Wrap-Around Care & Holiday Clubs |
| Hurlingham provides parents with a significant level of childcare support through morning supervision and our post-school Tea Club, which includes a hot meal. We also operate a number of holiday clubs throughout the year. All of these activities are booked through our online clubs management platform, 'SchoolsBuddy'. |
| Music Lessons |
| Individual instrumental music lessons can be arranged through the school and take place during the school day. The cost of these lessons are paid by parents directly to our self-employed, peripatetic music teachers. Their charges, which are reviewed annually are currently £19.40 for a 20 minute lesson and £28.90 for a 30 minute lesson. |
| School Bus |
| Hurlingham operates a bus service that brings children, who live in Southfields and Fulham, to and from school. The fees for this, which are not subject to VAT, are added to the termly fee invoice. A 10% discount is applied to these fees siblings travelling at the same time to and from the same home address. The current costs are laid out on the 'Shuttle Bus Page'. |

Financial Aid and Bursaries
A limited number of bursaries are available to pupils joining the School with priority given to those wishing to join in Years 2, 3 and 4. The majority of financial assistance is, however, reserved for existing pupils in case of unforeseen hardship or temporary difficulty, in order to ensure continuity of education in deserving cases. Bursaries are means tested.
When considering whether to grant a bursary the School considers a wide range of appropriate matters including, but not limited to, parental/guardian income (from all sources), assets (both real and personal property) and other matters such as family circumstances and matters which are particular to the child. The granting of a bursary is discretionary and each application is considered fully on its merits. Given the wide variety of individual financial and family circumstances and the discretionary nature of such awards, precise criteria which may lead to qualification for a Bursary are not disclosed and are confidential to the School.
The continued tenure of a bursary is subject to satisfactory performance and good conduct and adherence to the School’s Terms and Conditions in place at the time.
Please contact the Head of Admissions and Marketing, Wendy Ratcliff, if you require further information on the application process.
